Enterprise Portal Blueprint

Web portals are special applications that aggregate content from multiple component applications and provide users with features such as personalization (each user can customize the look and feel of the interface), single-sign-on, integrated content management, and integrated search. Web portals are becoming very common as well as very essential part of most enterprise IT systems. Large enterprises even deploy multiple portals. Many leading vendors provide portal servers, using which custom portal applications can be developed and deployed.

The architecture and implementation of a custom portal application can be a complex task despite the existence of visual tools to help configure these applications. This is because the portal needs to integrate with multiple external applications, content management system, search engine, content syndication, security etc.

To address this issue, we have developed an enterprise portal blueprint that contains our reference architecture of a typical portal. It also contains skeleton implementations for the various integration points. This collection includes various enhancements and customizations that we have tried and tested in existing enterprise portal deployments. There are also several product specific performance enhancements built into our solution.
