Even the most brilliant application would be of no use if it fails to deploy in the data-center. Worse still would be the case if after deployment it fails intermittently in production. This would lead to user dissatisfaction and even loss of reputation.

Conventionally there is a gap between development/engineering and production deployment. While the application is tested for functional correctness, it is often not tested for its durability in the data center and in live production environments. This is mainly because two different teams are involved. The development team that created the application, and the system administrators that manage the application in the data-center. The sysadmin team does not usually understand the application very well; and the developers are not fluent with sysadmin tasks. This gap can cause delays in the application going live. It also causes delays in isolating the cause of problems during production, especially if the application is at fault.
